The Eccles Rotary club once again held its traditional Christmas Day lunch for elderly people who would otherwise be on their own at Alexandra House in Eccles. I think we’re entitled to call it “traditional”; it is now in its 22nd year!
This year there were 50 guests for lunch and 20 helpers including 7 Rotarians, Friends of Rotary and some regulars who support us every Christmas Day. Julie, our Cook brought her family and provided traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings, Christmas pudding and trifle and mince pies. After dinner there was time for lots of chat, 4 games of Bingo and the afternoon concluded with carol singing.
The day was enjoyed by all of our guests, including one lady who told her Rotary chauffeur that her son died just a few days before Christmas, she had not been before but declared that it was the best event she had ever attended despite the fact that she would spend the rest of the day alone.
The Club is grateful for the support it receives from the Eccles Community and from the family of Rotary for what has again been a successful and worthwhile project.
Thanks for your help Ged, one of the regular Rotary supporters of this project.
