From support for two new community groups to help for severely disabled children, nine local groups went away with a donation from the recent Wigan Rotary Clubs Dragons Den event.
Over a dozen organizations applied and the three dragons, Rotary President Venk Mani, former Westfield Children’s Centre manager Aukje Clegg OBE, and chartered accountant Peter Cheetham invited nine groups to pitch for a share of £4000.
Wigan Rotary President Venk Mani said,’ it was a tremendous evening and Wigan Rotary Club was delighted to be able to help the wonderful work undertaken by the organizations present.
In these hard economic times it is surprising the difference a few hundred pounds can make. It was also humbling to see how many people are prepared to give up their time to help others.’
He continued ‘However this event would not be possible without the generous donations of the Wigan residents, mainly from last December when we accompanied Santa and his sleigh around the area. We hope this event publicises that we are using their donations wisely and for the benefit of the local community and that everyone’s a winner.’
