The Rotary Club of Chadderton & Failsworth, through links with Voluntary Action Oldham set up a support fund called “350 Instant Cash” about one year ago.
The goal was to help groups working in the Club’s local community who needed instant cash to achieve some necessary action in order to go forward. Each donation is £350 and the Club seek out one or two good causes a month.
Since the scheme started, the Rotary Club have helped more than a dozen groups in this way.
One such group is named “Friends of Coalshaw Green Park” run by Barbara Wilson MBE and Ms Sam Hearder. The group meet at the Centre in Coalshaw Green Park in Chadderton on Monday afternoons between 1.30 and 3.30. There they design, cut out, colour, assemble and print the most attractive and inventive greetings cards our Rotary Club visitors had ever seen.
Typically there might be about 15 or 20 people attending an afternoon session. Some are handicapped in various ways, others not. Anybody over the age of 18 is welcome to attend and the skills being taught and the quality of the product is truly inspiring.
Chadderton & Failsworth Rotary Club was only too pleased to help them out with the purchase of high quality card, colours and inks.
The pictures show Barbara and secretary of the Rotary Club, Tony Wright with a collection of greetings cards, and Sam at the centre of her group of learners.
