The children of Shevington Community Primary School were very upset last year when all their hard work in the school garden was ruined after a visit from the local rabbit population.
Teacher Emma Leyland said ‘ The school gardening club is a very popular part of the school and we wanted to maintain the children’s interest and continue to increase their knowledge. The donation from Wigan Rotary Club has enabled us to do this.’
Rotary President Keith Trencher said ‘ We are delighted to make the donation for such a worthwhile cause and we wanted to come to the school and see how successful the planters have been.’ He continued ‘ the donations we made at the Dragons Den event were only possible thanks to the generosity of the Wigan public, and the trust they place in us to use that money wisely, and I am sure they agree that we have in this instance.’
The next Dragons Den event which is open to all Wigan based community groups will take place next year and will be advertised in the local press. The club recently celebrated its ninetieth anniversary, and in the last year has donated over £20,000 to groups and charities both at home and abroad.
