The Rotary Club of Chadderton & Failsworth was awarded the Rotary North West Silver Rose Bowl in recognition of their Community Project known as 350 Instant Cash
The 350 Instant Cash in the Community Project was the brain child of Past Club President Peter Turner, and it involves the Club working in conjunction with Voluntary Action Oldham to identify local groups who are providing a unique service in support of disadvantaged people in the local Community.
Each group chosen for a donation of £350 instant cash has been selected by all members of the Club based on written applications initially, followed up by a presentation at the Club and visits by some members to view the activities of the selected groups
The Club aims to support at least two groups per month and since the Project started two years ago many local activities involved with sports and the arts or simple respite have had a much needed boost to purchase all sorts of items for their work
A spin – off of this scheme is that not only is the Club learning about many varied less known and local good causes but they in turn are learning about Rotary and in the longer term it is hoped to engage with a number of these on a more permanent basis either through further support or their involvement in Chadderton & Failsworth’s own fund raising activities. For instance over the next two weeks the Club’s Santa and his sleigh will be visiting locations in the borough ably assisted by many of their new found friends
