The annual collection made by members of Wigan Rotary Club in the company of Father Christmas throughout December 2015 has been a huge success with the total amount raised in excess of £15,880.00. In the current economic climate the club consider this a tremendous achievement by Wiganers.
Wigan Rotary President Keith Trencher said ‘ I would like to thank everyone for their terrific generosity, which will enable Wigan Rotary Club to support local, national and international charities to which we are committed. This support is a tremendous boost and encouragement to us.’
Keith continued ‘we are extremely grateful for everyone’s generosity. We are aware that the coming year will again be difficult for a number of charities and community groups, and I can assure everyone who made a donation this year that we will use the money as carefully as possible. All the helpers are volunteers who willingly give up their time and the only expenses are for the repairs to the float, the cost of petrol for the generator, and insurance, the members of the club meet all the other costs”.
He added “We would also like to thank the local businesses that have helped particularly Ainscough Group, Boron and Shaw, K & M Acoustics, Local Life Orrell, the Hampson Partnership, Westwood Van Hire and not least Wigan Council whose Directors and staff from Finance, Behavioral Change, In Bloom and Planning depts., helped fill the coffers.
Wigan 78 Club, Orrell Mums and Toddlers Group, Orrell Community Network gave support too. The local Supermarkets, Asda, Sainsburys, and Tesco, along with Staff at Santander and The Galleries, all offered venues to facilitate collections, plus the invalid support of local press to promote our activities so it has been a wonderful example of community engagement”.The Club send season’s greetings to all who participated in this huge event.
