The sun shone and the crowds gathered as the Rotary Club of Ramsbottom staged their annual charity fund raising Duck Race day as part of the highly successful Chocolate Festival.
Crowds filled the gardens as each race commenced. The ducks were transported up river to the starting point by members of the Bury Kayak Club, the race lanes were provided by the guys from Ramsbottom Fire Station and the hardy ladies and gentlemen of the Bury Sub Aqua club were in the chilly water to collect and rescue our little plastic friends after their perilous journey, only to be recounted and thrown in again for their second race later in the day.
Thanks to all these guys for their highly specialised expertise. St. Andrews scouts were also there to lend a hand and also manned the much needed refreshment tent.
A wonderful addition to the day are the giant ducks, purchased mainly by the local businesses who put in a lot of work to paint and decorate them in corporate colours, frills, feathers , top hats and all manner of outlandish attire, "fabulous"
Prizes are awarded for 1st 2nd and 3rd place in each race and for the "Best Dressed Duck" Five of our local restaurants provided superb prizes. Our grateful thanks go out to all who gave their time to help stage the "day" and the many people who came to lend support. The day raised just under £5000, all of which goes to local, national and international causes.
